Nokia N971

Perhaps of a new Nokia series with X Series like X2, X6 and their new product called X9 we are really forgot about their N series, shortness we can called that Nokia N971. This must be underlined that Nokia wants their supremacy is back with their N series as the king of multimedia’s phone. If previous version Nokia 5800 Xpress Music was not excited or low prestigious with standard features, N971 has a specification that guaranteed will make us feel exciting with features and high technology.

This is the first handset with internal memory up to 32 GB (that capacities more larger than notebook using SSD) and also be the first with “social location” concept that using A-GPS sensor and electronic compass. That concept was claimed surely important to update information of your status in social web easily.

One thing that make Nokia N971 very feasible used as plays station, a touch screen with 3,5 inches wide 16:9. For anyone loves type mode there is QWERTY keyboard with slider (looks like windows mobile phone). Surely virtual touch input also can still be used. For buttons, only using three lines to makes more places, but looks like there is hasn’t a numeric button. It could be a difficult condition or nothing at all. Their own display can be setting the corner of tilt angle and looks like HTC TyTN II.

whereas for battery capability, N971 was claimed could playing music nonstop up to 1,5 days or similar with 36 hours. The camera, although still has 5 MP with Carl Zeiss lens. And the video could records with 16:9 aspect ratios which have similar quality with DVD.

LG KP500 Cookie touchscreen equipped camera phone

The LG KP500 Cookie is a new device boasting to be the UK's cheapest touchscreen handset. With a large 3" screen and a 3 megapixel camera, the KP500 should be a tempting proposition to anyone that wants a more affordable alternative to the iPhone. We take a closer look to see if the Cookie crumbles...

Physical Aspects
The LG Cookie comes in the standard tablet style that many recent touchscreen handsets have adopted. This gives the device a simplistic look, with the 3" touch-sensitive display dominating the front. Measuring a respectable 106.5mm x 55.4mm x 11.9mm (4.2" x 2.2" x .5") and weighing a mere 89g (3.1oz), the Cookie easily slides into a pocket or handbag.

The display is capable of showing 256,000 colors and has a WQVGA resolution of 240 x 400 pixels. It's also quite bright, allowing for decent legibility in sunny conditions. Below it are three square buttons with chrome edges. The buttons comprise the 'Call/Send' button, favorite/running apps button, and 'End' button. Around the display is a glossy black surround that houses the LG logo, with the rest of the front being clad in soft-touch plastic.

The rear shares this soft touch finish, and houses the lens for the 3.0 megapixel camera. The lower half of the rear cover slides off to reveal the battery and SIM card slot, and features an embossed LG logo. The front and rear of the device are separated by a metallic silver band that loops around all four edges of the handset. The top and bottom of the device are completely bare, aside from the microphone pinhole on the bottom edge.

The sides of the Cookie house the remaining few buttons, with the volume rocker on the left and the camera shutter and screen lock buttons on the right. I found the screen lock button to be too flush with the casing to allow easy operation. It usually took a few jabs at the side of the device before I managed to unlock the screen. There's also a covered microSD(INFO) slot on the right and the device's proprietary headset/data/charging multi-port on the left. Hidden in the bottom right corner of the device is the extendable stylus that, unusually, slides out of the device sideways. The stylus is quite short at 76mm, but the phone can be operated with a finger for most tasks, so it's rarely needed.

Overall, the LG Cookie is a decent-looking device, though is a little boring and lacks any real design flare. However, thanks to extensive use of soft-touch plastics, it does feel quite nice in the hand and stays fingerprint-free, aside from the screen.

LG KC910 Renoir

A touch-screen model may not be that far from reach anymore! The LG KP500 is the new budget champion with a 3” (240 x 400) fully functional touch screen. Being the small brother of the LG KC910 Renoir, it shares much of the feature set (and expectation) of the much more expensive LG KC910. Let’s dive into the touch experience!

The package comes with the phone, a charger, a battery, a USB cable, a handsfree and a manual. The minimal package is nothing too unusual for a budget phone.

The phone is a lot smaller than the LG KS20, and other smartphone. It only weighs 89g and is 12 mm thin. It is one of the lightest and smallest slab phones out there.

From left to right: Answer, Home, Reject buttons. This is all the keys you will ever need with a touch model. Apparently Apple thinks otherwise and decided to take away the Answer/Reject keys on the Apple iPhone 3G, causing great difficulty in answering/rejecting the call when you are taking the phone away from your pocket. With the physical answer/reject keys on the LG KP500, you can do it much conveniently (and handsomely).

The phone has 48MB internal memory, so you probably need to expand storage with a microSD card (upto 16GB is supported). The microSD card slot is conveniently located on the side of the phone. It is protected by a cover against dust and moist.

The camera is where the LG KC910 and LG KP500 differ a lot. The 3MP camera sits quietly on the back of the phone without a lens cover or flash support. It also lacks autofocus so I wouldn’t expect too much on its photo quality.

The Active Flash UI is an improved adaptation to Samsung’s TouchWiz interface found on Samsung models (such as Samsung F480 ). You can customize the home screen in whatever way you like so that it is less boring to look at your phone. To align the icon instantly, shake the phone and the icons will move to their rightful place. You can also use the stylus to help you with input and dragging the icons. Operation is largely the same as the LG KC910 and you can learn how to navigate through the interface by watching the YouTube movie below.

The communication page here. The same as other Samsung device.

When it comes to input, the phone has a standard 9-key predictive T9 input and a virtual QWERTY keyboard. To launch the virtual QWERTY, hold the phone horizontally with the left side facing downward.

Although the LG KP500 is a budget model, it is full of features. The Active Flash UI is fun, and more importantly, beautiful. The operation is smooth and there are a lot of input methods available. The lack of Wi-Fi and 3G means that you cannot exploit the screen fully with mobile web browsing. Fortunately it comes with quad band GSM which guarantees worldwide functionality. It is fun, it is friendly on your purse, it’s got a touch screen!
